Error message creating database on an Oracle server "ORA- 01400: cannot insert NULL into "

Situation

The error at the end of the setup being:

DBSetup

Script Execution error:"C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\Assetm~1\SQL\Oracle8\CSchema.log"

The error section in the file shows:

ORA- 01400: cannot insert NULL into

("NCSYSTEM"."NC_WKSTNRECONCILEDATA"."RECONCILEDATA")

ORA- 06512: at"NCSYSTEM.TSC_ADD_RECONCILE_DATA", line 17

The setup then closes and never completes successfully.

Resolution

This and other similar errors can arise if using UTF-8 or AL16UTF16 character set. It is recommended to change the character set to WE8MSWIN1252.
