SNMP communication from ConsoleOne and Management agents stops working after installing NW65SP3.EXE.

Resolution

The full NW NMA agent is not provided until NW 6.5 SP3 or later. The default NMA5.NCF modules will load (and unload with UNNMA5.NCF) unless a manual action is taken.

To load and unload the full MMS NW NMA modules after NW65SP3.EXE or later is installed, rename SYS:SYSTEM\NMA\NMA5.NCF and UNNMA5.NCF to NMA5.NCF.OLD AND UNNMA5.NCF.OLD (or some other name of choice) and then rename SYS:SYSTEM\NMA\NMA5.NCF.NEW to NMA5.NCF and UNNMA5.NCF.NEW to UNNMA5.NCF.

Still, there are some differences between what is installed with the Netware OS Support Packs and what is installed with the ZENworks for Servers Management and Monitoring Services Product install (MMS NetWare NMA).

The differences between the default basic NW NMA, the NetWare OS Support Pack NMA, and the ZENworks MMS 7 NW NMA are:

Basic NW NMA --Basic agent that will respond to SNMP queries, generates only NW server outbound SNMP traffic, but will not trend any NW server activity, see the online documentation for an explanation for what each module does: ZSM MMS 6.5 Agent Files; ZSM MMS 7 29.1 Agent Files.

NW OS Support Pack NMA (same as ZSM 6.5 MMS NMA)--Will respond to SNMP queries, send Novell SNMP outbound traffic, and trend NetWare activity, see the online documentation for an explanation for what each module does: ZSM MMS 6.5 Agent Files; ZSM MMS 7 29.1 Agent Files.

ZENworks MMS 7 NW NMA--NWTRPAGT & DSTRPAGT are loaded only in the ZSM MMS NMA 7 agent. An explanation of these modules is in the ZW online documentation found at: ZSM MMS 7 35.1 Understanding Trap Configuration.

Installing a NetWare OS Support Pack on top of a full MMS NetWare NMA install will leave the MMS NetWare NMA NMA5.NCF and UNNMA5.NCF in place. If, for some reason the NMA5.NCF.NEW and UNNMA5.NCF.NEW are renamed after the NetWare OS Support Pack is installed on top the MMS NW NMA, verify which NMA5.NCF / UNNMA5.NCF files (below) are loading (and unloading) and get the correct ones loading for what has been installed.
For NW 6.5 shipping, NW65SP1A.EXE, and NW65SP2.EXE servers, install the full NW NMA modules from ZENworks for Servers Management and Monitoring Services Product install.
