Novell Storage Services crashes on startup of Open Enterprise Server

Configuration Information:
Server is configured to use EVMS and Novell Storage Services

Situation

Symptoms:
No NSS Pools visible using command: "nss /pools".
No NSS Volumes exported via NCP to clients.
Examination of /var/log/messages shows messages similar to the following:
NSSLOG ==> [MSAP] comnLog.c[201]
Pool"POOL" - Watching pool.
Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 75c7202c

Resolution

Fix the corrupted pool as follows:
  1. Add /poolautodeactivate=all to/etc/opt/novell/nss/conf/nssstart.cfg and reboot the server
  2. Manually activate each pool on the server to see which pool is corrupted.
  3. Run ravsui rebuild

Cause

The cause of NSS not loading successfully in this case after reboot was a corrupted pool .

The crash has been reported to engineering . A pool should be put in maintenance or offline state if it is corrupt; a corrupt pool should not prevent NSS from loading successfully.
