Environment

Novell ZENworks Desktop Management 7 - ZDM7 Imaging

Situation

The workstation's hardware information is not being unpacked by the ZENworks Imaging Transaction service.

Resolution

Fixed in Zenworks 7 with SP1 Desktop Management, available at Novell Downloads

Additional Information

Root Cause:
The Network Bootloader (DINIC.SYS) sends the PCI IDs from the Workstation to the imaging server. These IDs are unpacked and read by the Transaction service (DTS) to obtain a hardware listing of the workstation and can therefore determine if the imaging rules apply.

Troubleshooting Steps:
Enable the DTS.log file on the ZENworks imaging server by modifying the following line within the SYS:SYSTEM\DTS.INI file:
"MustLog=1"
This will create a log file SYS:SYSTEM\DTS.LOG

The following error can be seen within the log:
"Entering - UnpackZenHW
PXE_HARDWARE_SIGNATURE invalid
Exiting - UnpackZenHW"
