Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5

Situation

Standalone installs of versions 3.1 and earlier installed MSDE v 1.0. If MSDE v1.0 is installed then the upgrade to version 7.5 standalone cannot be done.

Resolution

With the release of version 7.5, the upgrade will no longer support the MSDE 1 install on a machine that was a Standalone install prior to version 3.2. In any of these options please backup the Filestore and the MSDE Database by using the Backup and Restore utility found within the ZAM toolkit on the Support website.

The upgrade code will fail and let the user know that the upgrade cannot be completed.

Options:

1. Upgrade MSDE 1 to MSDE 2. A possible document to refer to is the below. However, please note that Novell technical support does not create nor troubleshoot the below documentation:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/5/4/d5402c33-65de-4464-9d82-d1de2971d9db/ReadmeMSDE2000A.htm

Once the MSDE 2 upgrade is complete then retry the ZAM 7.5 upgrade.

2. Upgrade MSDE 1 to an actual SQL server 2K installation within the environment. Do an Enterprise upgrade and then do the actual 7.5 upgrade.

3. Lose all of the data and do a fresh installation of ZAM 7.5 after doing a manual uninstall of MSDE 1. Please refer to Microsoft's website knowledgbase document: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;276044

4. If on version 3.2 or 7.0 use our Backup and Restore utility to make a backup of the database. The Backup and Restore utility is available on our Novell support site within the ZAM toolkit.
Do a DOS Copy of the Filestore folder. Do a manual uninstall of MSDE 1 by following the Microsoft KB note

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;276044.

Reinstall fresh the version presently installed. This will also allow an install of MSDE 2. Use the Backup and Restsore utility to restore the database and then copy in the DOS copy of the backed up Filestore.
