Copy on directory that contains long filenames

Environment

Novell NetWare 4.x

Situation

A customer reported the following:

Using a Novell Client (4.11, 4.11a, 4.6, 4.7) and Map a (not Root) drive to a Volume or directory, e.g.

MAP S:=/VOL1:USER/admin.

Then create two directories:

- "Test"

- "Test_very_long"

Now create two files:

- "Gfi_msgs.dov"

- "Gfi_msgs_dot.dov"

Copy "Gfi_msgs_dot.dov" to the "Test" and then to the"Test_very_long" directory on the fileserver using explorer. Now take the file "Gfi_msgs.dov" and copy it with explorer to the fileserver to "Test_very_long" directory.

Now take the file "Gfi_msgs.dov" and copy it with explorer to"Test" directory on the server. It does NOT work. It sees the DOS name of the already existing long file name and says "file already exists".

Resolution

Within NetWare 4.x we use a different way to create Long filenames than for example Microsoft did. This has been changed with NetWare 5 that's why there is no such Patch necessary.

Patch "MIXMOD6.EXE" is solving the issue. More information can be found here:
