Environment

Novell ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management - ZDM6.5 Desktop Management
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Desktop Management
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Situation

Some Internet Explorer Settings under User Configuration->Windows Settings->Internet Explorer Maintenance do not apply to the workstation. This occurs when the Group Policy uses the User Cache Setting and logs in locally.

Resolution

For ZDM6.5: Fixed in Service Pack 1 for ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management

For ZDM7: Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 3a, see KB 3484245 "Updates to Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management" which can be found at Novell Support

Additional Information

To duplicate:
  1. Setup a User Group Policy with an IE setting to change the IE Homepage URL. Also, enable the Cache User Settings checkbox.
  2. Log in to the network and apply the Group Policy. Notice that everything applies correctly, even the IE Homepage Setting.
  3. Logout and login locally. Launch IE. Notice that the homepage is not correct. With Cache User Settings enabled, this should remain the same as above no matter if you login to the network or login locally.

Note that this problem only occurs if the policy contains only Internet Explorer settings, and if the user is logging in locally. In these circumstances, no registry.pol file exists, and ZEN thinks there are no settings to apply.
