Environment

Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 5

Situation

The SYS:USR directory was renamed and now the server will not boot.

The server abends when mounting the SYS volume and gives the error:

Error: Count not initialize nwtermio terminfo database.

Resolution

1) Copy LIBC modules from NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 3 to the C:\NWSERVER directory (backup existing modules to a temporary directory before replacing them with the older modules).

The following modules will need to be replaced from SP3:

CLIB.NLM
CLIBAUX.NLM
CLIBCTX.NLM
LIB0.NLM
LIBC.NLM
LOCNLM32.NLM
NIT.NLM
NLMLIB.NLM
REQUESTR.NLM
THREADS.NLM
UNICODE.NLM

2) Use KB 10077587 for information on how to boot the server without mounting SYS.

3) The server can be booted using 'server -ns', run 'startup.ncf','loadstage 1', then 'loadstage 2'. Use a utility such as CPQFM.NLM or JCMD.NLM to copy the nwtermio database file from a working server or Support Pack 5. The file is called "netware" and needs to be placed in SYS:USR/SHARE/TERMINFO/N

4) Copy the original LIBC modules from the temp directory back into C:\NWSERVER. Delete the nssstart.cfg file created in Step 2 so the server can boot normally.

Additional Information

If NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 3 is not available, please contact Novell Technical Support to obtain these files.
