nds.conf is updated with hostname but ncp server object is not renamed

Environment

Novell eDirectory 8.8 for Linux
Novell eDirectory 8.8 for Solaris

Situation

n4u.nds.server-name=LXServer7
n4u.nds.preferred-server=LXSERVER7

This situation may cause "ndsconfig add modules" to fail as they look either at the hostname, hosts or eDirectory to lookup the server name.

Resolution

Check the following when troubleshooting:
Command: hostname
File: /etc/hosts
File: /etc/hostname
File: nds.conf
DIB: NCP Server object name

1. Normally the "NCP Server object name" auto-updated in DS when Limber runs (which occurs 10 minutes after the DIB opens)

2. The host name (hostname / uname -a) and the entry in /etc/hosts should not need to be in the same case...but for troubleshooting purposes name them exactly the same.

The behaviour may appear to change over time, which might be as a result of a background task (i.e. Limber) which takes time to run after the DIB opens.
