Random hangs on ZENworks Subscriber server with JVM 1.4.2_13

Environment

Novell ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Support Pack 2 - ZSM6.5 SP2 Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED)
Novell NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 6 with JVM 1.4.2_13

Situation

The subscriber process occasionally and randomly hangs during policy refreshes. The ZENworks console no longer takes input and the service must be restarted.

Resolution

Revert back to JVM 1.4.2_9 version.

Additional Information

This is happening during the periodic (approximately 24 hour cycle) refresh that occurs when the service is restarted due to the server's policy requiring changes from its default settings. For example when a server subscriber policy changes the default log level.
Although logging is also halted, the last items seen in the log are typically around a log file cleanup and refresh:
