Mapped Drives Being Lost

Novell Client for Windows 2000/XP/2003 4.90 Support Pack 2 File Access


Users would log in and get all drives mapped. After a period of time on random users - one of the mapped drives would become detatched.

No files could be accessed on the network drive. Other mapped drives to other servers were ok.

Trying to remap the drive again failed despite having what appears to be an authenticated connection to the server. Detatching from the server under Novell Connections allowed the drive to be sucessfully remapped.


Changed the Bad Address Cache Timeout to 0 in the Advanced setting of the Novell Client and this seemed to resolve the customers issue. Although there is likely to be an underlying comms issue causing the problem.

Customer elected to upgrade the client to 491 sp3 and this resolved the issue.
