Environment

Novell eDirectory 8.5 for Linux
Novell eDirectory 8.5 for Solaris
Novell eDirectory 8.6 for Solaris
Novell eDirectory 8.6 for Linux
Novell eDirectory 8.7.3.9 FTF3 for Linux
Novell eDirectory 8.7.3.9 FTF3 for Solaris

Situation

Does eDirectory for Linux/Solaris have a -NDB startup option?

Resolution

With NetWare, there is an option to bring the server up with out actually opening the database. This is done by loading the server with SERVER -NDB. On the Linux/Solaris platform, there is currently no switch to that will do this. However, it may be possible to look at the NDS.CONF file and modify the path to the NDS database files and change it to a path where there are no NDS files.
Starting with eDirectory 8.7.3.9 FTF3 and 8.8 SP2 it is possible to use the -ndb on Linux/Solaris.
Linux/Solaris: /etc/init.d/ndsd start -ndb

Additional Information

NOTE:  If running eDirectory on Linux systemd distributions such as SLES 12 or RHEL 7, refer to TID 7018431 for additional information.

We don't have -ndb for eDirectory 8.8.1 for Linux/Solaris yet.
