How To Prevent Mounted Volumes From Automatically Showing Up On The Gnome Desktop

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
 

Situation

Gnome Desktop:

When placing CD, DVD, or floppy disks in the server or desktop an icon is created on the desktop for the media being automounted.

Resolution

To prevent this do the following:
  1. Press ALT F2
  2. gconf-editor
  3. Choose APPS > NAUTILUS > DESKTOP
  4. Uncheck VOLUMES_VISIBLE
