Troubleshooting initial installation problems

There could be several reasons for an initial install to fail. To help the support group troubleshoot the failure, logs will be needed.


To get a more detailed database persister (dbp) error message you can set persister logging at the install welcome screen. The persister log generally contains enough information to determine the reason for the failed login attempt.
Set the following registry entry at the welcome screen to set persister logging:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tally Systems Corp.\TSCensus\Database
DiagnosticLogging=1 (DWORD value)
Once you receive the error message an error log will exist in a subdirectory of your current install temp directory. To find the location of your current temp directory look in the tscinst.log file located in your windows directory.
The current temp directory will be something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\jcomeau\Local Settings\Temp\_ISTMP04.DIR\_ISTMP0.DIR\
The easiest way to find the logs is to do a wild card search *.log at the root ie "C:\DOCUME~1\jcomeau\LOCALS~1\Temp\" and include subdirectories. Then just look for any logs with the correct create date.
