Using the OpenOffice Thesaurus

This document lists the process of using the thesaurus to select different words in an Writer document.


  1. Highlight the word that is to be replaced with a different term.
  2. Click on "Tools", then "Language", then "Thesaurus" (or press Control-F7 if using the default short cut keys). For example :

    This will open up the thesaurus dialog box.

  3. Select the meaning in the left list box of the dialog - this will show words that have a similar meaning in the right one.
  4. Select the word to replace the word in the document in the right list box of the dialog.
  5. Click the OK button.
