SSL Connections with IE7, IE8 on Windows Vista returns blank page

Apache HTTP Server 2.XX on NetWare 6.5

Novell BorderManager 3.8 SSL Authentication


Situation

SSL connections with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 and  8 on Microsoft Windows Vista will fail with:
  • SSL enabled web services on Novell NetWare 6.5 and Novell NetWare 6.0
  • Novell iChain 2.3 SSL enabled authentication pages and accelerator
SSL services on OES Linux (OpenSSL based) do not have this problem

Internet Explorer Version 7 on Windows XP does no have this problem
as TLS 1.0 is not enabled as default security setting

Resolution

Workaround: turn off TLS 1.0 and enable SSL2 for using the following procedure:
  1. Open the Advanced Internet Options from the Tools menu
  2. Scroll down to the Security Section and disable TLS 1.0
This issue has been addressed to engineering
  • For iChain the fix has been shipped with Novell iChain 2.3 Service Pack 5a
  • For NetWare 6.5 the fix will be included with Novell NetWare 6.5 Service Pack 7
  • For Novell BorderManager 3.8 / 3.9 this issue will not be fixed
