Umxlator causes high utilization with applications that launch from local UNC paths

Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5

Situation

If an application is started from a local UNC path, for example \\machine\c$\windows\system32\notepad.exe and Software Usage Tracking is enabled and running, then when an inventory scan runs, then umxlator.exe uses up to 99 percent CPU. umxlator.txt grows very quickly with lines containing
'Excluding \\machine\c$\windows\system32\notepad.exe as a network application'

Resolution

Fixed in ZAM 7.5 IR 3
If downloading the Interim Release manually fromhttps://download.novell.com, the filename is upd750.zip. The Interim releases can also be set up within the ZAM Manager for the Task server to check the site on a scheduled basis, and download and apply them automatically. Please refer to the Help Section for details of how to set up automatic downloads if desired.

Each interim release is cumulative. If Interim Release 3 is not available due to a newer interim release being placed on the website, be assured that the code needed is in the later release.

Additional Information

If the UNC path points to a network resource, i.e. a share on a different computer, then this problem is not seen.
