Environment

Novell iPrint Client for Windows 4.20

Situation

If a printer is renamed at the NetWare server console, or the Print Manager is loaded with a new DNS or IP Address switch, then the iPrint printers installed to workstations will be automatically deleted and auto installed with the new name or new DNS/IP information. If the iPrint printer that is being removed and re-installed is the Windows Default Printer, then that default assignment becomes lost. Another printer in the Windows Printers and Faxes list becomes the default printer.

Resolution

Install the iPrint Client version 4.26 or later. iPrint Client version 4.26 can be downloaded with Support Pack 6 for NetWare 6.5, or by searching for nipp.exe from Novell's File Finder.

Additional Information

When an iPrint printer is auto removed, the user receives a message that:

The Administrator has renamed or modified printer \\ipp://[serverDNSorIP]\[PrinterName]. Please wait while this printer is updated.

After clicking the OK button, the user will eventually see:

Printer \\ipp://[serverDNSorIP]\[PrinterName] has been updated and its name changed to \\ipp://[serverDNSorIP]\[PrinterName].
