Environment

DirXML 1.1a
Nsure Identity Manager 2.0
Novell Identity Manager 3.0
Novell Identity Manager 3.5

Situation

The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the licensing approach of each of the main components of the Identity Management family and also show the differences between the different versions of the products.

Please refer to the product documentation for more information on each specific product line.

Resolution

DirXML 1.1a line:

Licensing: licensed per directory object that is sychronized. The engine is included with each driver acquired.

Activating DirXML:
Open Console One, start the activation wizard and enter the Activation-Customer ID that was e-mailed to the customer upon the buy of the licenses. This will give you an activation request file. Now open a webbrowser and visit https://www.novell.com/activator and either enter the path to the activation request file or copy and paste the whole activation request (incl. the "---" at the beginning and end). Hit Submit and you can choose from a list of drivers which one you want to activate. if a wrong Activation-Customer_ID has been used in Console One to create the requestfile you will see no driversets to activate.

For more information on this topic, go to the DirXML 1.1a documentation at https://www.novell.com/documentation/dirxml11a/index.html and look for the section called "Activating DirXML Products".

How to activate additional licenses for an already existing driverset:
No action necessary, once a certain driver was activated it will technically run an unlimited number of objects although the customer is only allowed to use the amount of licenses he has purchased from Novell.

Novell Nsure Identity Manager 2

Licensing: licensed per directory object that is sychronized. The engine has to be bought seperately in the largest number of objects that are sychronized (i.e: customer needs 400 x AD driver and 300 x GroupWise driver = 400 x engine + correct number of dirver licenses for each product)

Activating IDM 2:
The activation follows a similar procedure to the one described above. It is recommended, though, to do the request from iManager with the appropriate plugins.
For more information on this topic, go to the Novell Nsure Identity Manager 2 documentation at https://www.novell.com/documentation/dirxml20/index.html and look for the section called "Activating Novell Identity Manageer Products".

How to activate additional licenses for an already existing driverset:
No action necessary, once a certain driver was activated it will technically run an unlimited number of objects though the customer is only allowed to use the amount of licenses he has obtained from Novell.

Novell Identity Manager 3 and 3.5

Licensing: licensed per directory object that is synchronized. The engine is included with the base license of IDM 3. This license includes also the drivers for Windows (AD and NT), Email (Groupwise, Exchange and Notes) and Directory (eDirectory and other LDAP). Service drivers like the User App, loopback and entitlement drivers are also included in this license.

Other driver needs to be bought separately and added to this base module. Similar drivers are grouped together and are referred to as"Integration Modules". There are different categories of Integrations Modules, like Database, Education and Enterprise. For more information, on this topic refer to the Identity Manager Pricing Overview Page.

Activating IDM 3:

Customer receives the activation credential by delivery mail. Once received, start iManager and copy this creditial into the wizard and the driverset should be activated.

Special cases:

dirXML Starterpack (delivered free of charge with NW 6.0). NO activation possible for the Starterpack, just install on the NW Server 6.0 and it will run.

IDM 2 Starterpack (delivered free of charge with NW 6.5) NO activation possible for the Starterpack, just install on the NW Server 6.5 and it will run.

IDM 3 Starterpack (delivered free of charge with OES and ZENworks). Activation status unclear, sometimes activation codes are provided, sometimes it just will run upon install

Known Errors:

Even though the documentation seems to say something else, we found the following to be true everytime:
dirXML + IDM 2 need Console One to activate
IDM 3 can only be activated via iManager
