Environment

This document contains screen shots on how to upgrade SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. Due to the confusion introduced by SQL Server 2005 (Yukon) installer, one common mistake one can make is NOT to update SQL Server Database Service 8.00.761 to 9.0.1399. The detail is described in step 12.


Situation

This document contains screen shots on how to upgrade SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. Due to the confusion introduced by SQL Server 2005 (Yukon) installer, one common mistake one can make is NOT to update SQL Server Database Service 8.00.761 to 9.0.1399. The detail is described in step 12.



  1. Start SQL Server 2005 installer and click InstallServer components, tools, Books Online, and samples


  1. Check accept and click Next


  1. Click Install


  1. Click Next


  1. Click next


  1. Click next


  1. Click next

  1. Check all "check boxes”


  1. Click Installed instances


  1. Highlight SQL Server and click OK


  1. Click Next

  1. Make sure to check SQL Server Database Services 8.00.761


  1. Click Next


  1. Select "Use the built-in System account” and click Next


  1. Use default, click Next


  1. Click next


  1. Click Install



  1. Click Next


  1. Click finish


  1. Start SQL Server Management Studio. Check if it is running SQL Server 9.0.1399.
