Additional Information

NAL is refreshing every 30 seconds, causing LAN traffic and DS traffic. The problem is reproducible by creating a new GUID for an application. The version number will then be changed to 0. After a refresh on NAL, this will cause the application to check DS every 30 seconds and also cause some flickering on the screen. If you then change the version number to the number in ConsoleOne to the number it was, before the problem is solved.

If you check the registry of the workstation, you will see that there is a new key generated (under HKLM\Software\Netware\NAL\1.0\Distribute\tree\user). In this new key you will see no HVER. Also you will see that the key generated by the previous GUID, is still present. If you check with NALDIAG, you will see that it states that for the application the cache version and netversion is 0, but version is still displaying the version from the previous GUID.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
  1. Create a simple application called APPTEST. E.g. run c:\windows\system32\freecell.exe. Give this a version number of 5 and assign this to the user you are logged in with. The applications should be "force run" and "run once".
  2. If NAL is not started, start NALDESK, or if NAL is started, do a refresh. FREECELL will start.
  3. In C1 change (distribution options, options, Modify, Randomly generate new GUID) the GUID of the application APPTEST.
  4. Refresh NAL. FREECELL will be started again. Close FREECELL. After less then 30 seconds it will be started again.
  5. If DSTRACE is enabled on the server and also network trace is taken, traffic between workstation and server wil be seen.
  6. Start NALDIAG on the workstation. The version of the application is 5, but the netversion and cacheversion is 0.
  7. Start REGEDIT and check HKLM\Software\Netware\NAL\1.0\Distribute\tree\user. The new guid will have no HVER. Also the old GUID is still present.
