Environment

Novell ZENworks 10 Configuration Management

Situation

When ZCM10 is installed on a Windows server, a local Windows account is created in the form of "__z_x_xx__" where "x" may be a different number on each machine.
This local account is given a random password and placed in the local administrators group.
This account is used as the startup account for many of the ZENworks services.
Some administrators needed to know if this account needed to be in the local administrators group and if the accounts password needed to be changed.

Resolution

The answer to both questions is yes.
This account must be a member of the local administrators group.
The password for this account can be changed, but if it is changed, the administrator must go to each service using the account and reenter the password so the service will start correctly.  Note some of the services use system, don't change those.
If the password is not changed on each service, the service will fail to start and give an "authentication" error.
