Situation
The Workstation Helper is not used within an XP Remote Desktop
Connection.
Resolution
Change the following registry value to equal:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]"AllowMultipleTSSessions"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]"AllowMultipleTSSessions"=dword:00000000
Additional Information
Root Cause:
XP is configured toallow multiple terminal sessions, a setting used by fast user switching. This causes the remote connection not to be on session 0. The above registry setting ensures that the remote session will be running in 0.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Enable Remote Desktop from run "control.exe sysdm.cpl" -> Remote tab
2) Run naldiag and ensure the Workstation Helper is connected.
3) Logout from the Workstation
4) From a second XP workstation use the Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc.exe) to connect.
5) Run naldiag
