Novell iPrint for Linux Open Enterprise Server Support Pack 2
Situation
There are many reasons a Print Manager will load in a defunct
state. This TID documents one possible situation.
The /var/opt/novell/log/iprint/ipsmd.log shows the following errors every time the Print Manager is instructed to load:
FATAL The iPrint Manager can not bind to eDir. Error FFFFFD85.
WARNING The iPrint Manager was unable to update its status in eDir, Error: -672.
There are many problems that can cause a Print Manager to go defunct. To determine if the Print Manager is going defunct for the reason stated in this TID, perform an ndslogin.
An ndslogin returns this error: (see Additional Notes if you are not familiar with the ndslogin command)
Error: sh: line 1: /var/novell/nici/nicimud: No such file or directory

Resolution
KB 10100791 documents the ndslogin error and provides
instructions to resolve the problem. The command to
resolve the problem is:
ln -s /var/opt/novell/nici /var/novell/nici
This problem is caused by a bug NICI. See KB 10100791 for more information on that issue.

The syntax to perform an ndslogin is:
ndslogin -h x.x.x.x admin.ou.o
A real world example of the same line is:
ndslogin -h 192.168.15.12 admin.mycompany
