How do I change the block size on a NSS or traditional NetWare volume?

Resolution

NSS Volume
Because of the way NSS is designed you cannot change the volume block size of an NSS volume (default of 4K). NSS volumes do not need to overcome the same deficiencies traditional volumes have in accessing data.

Traditional Volume
  1. Backup any data to an SMS compliant tape backup.
  2. Delete the Volume
  3. You can then set the new block size during the creation of the volume.
  4. Restore data from the tape backup.
Note: You can only set the block size during the creation of a volume. Once it is set it cannot be changed. For this reason it is recommended that you consider the average type and size of the files expected to be on a traditional volume before creating it.
