Environment

Novell Cluster Services
Novell Open Enterprise Server (Linux based)

Situation

On a new OES Linux cluster, resources go comatose.
Error: /etc/ha.d/resource.d/IPaddr2: No such file or directory Failed to add secondary IP address

Resolution

Install the heartbeat package from YaST:
  1. Launch YaST -> Software Management
  2. Change the filter to "Search"
  3. Search for "heartbeat"
  4. Select to install heartbeat.
  5. Let it install, Finish.
  6. Offline and Online the resource (or restart clustering with"rcnovell-ncs restart")

Additional Information

You do not need to enable the heartbeat service. NCS just uses the scripts included with heartbeat, but does not use heartbeat to track which services are up.
