Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Remote Management
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Management Agent

Situation

Remote control policies are not properly applied to the workstation if the workstation object does not initially authenticate to eDirectory on the first try. The workstation object does eventually attempt to reconnect to eDirectory and succeeds but remote control policies will not apply at that time.
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 HP3 was tried, but did not resolve the matter.

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 1, available athttps://download.novell.com

ZDM 7 SP1 IR1 adds support for the "WMInitRetryTime" registry setting.
By default, the remote control server will wait for 30 seconds for the workstation object to authenticate and read it policies.
The"WMInitRetryTime" registry setting can increase the default timeout.
1. Open registry of managed device.
2. Go to HKLM\Software\Novell\ZENworks\Remote Management\RMAgent key.
3. Create a DWORD value called "WMInitRetryTime". This entry specifies how long
the Remote Management Agent should keep retrying. The value is in seconds.
4. Enter the desired value.
