Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Linux Management - ZLM7
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9

Situation

ZLM 7 agent deletes the /dev/lp0 device. (parallel printer)

Resolution

Fixed in SLES 9 SP4 or later.

Additional Information

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1) Prior to installing the ZLM agent software, verify there is a /dev/lp0

device on the target machine. (The target machine is running SLES9)
for example:
ls /dev/lp0
2) Install the ZLM agent software with `zlm-install -a` on the target machine.
When it asks you for a Registration server address, put in the IP or DNS nameof your ZLM 7 server.
When it asks you for a Registration server key, leave it blank
RESULTS:
After installing the ZLM agent the /dev/lp0 device disappears after a reboot.
For example:
ls /dev/lp0 No such file or directory

This is because the ZLM agent runs 'hwinfo --reallyall' when doing inventory and this command is what deletes the/dev/lp0 device.

This was a bug in hwinfo rpm not ZLM.
