Environment
Novell iChain 2.3 Support Pack 4
Novell iChain 2.3 sp4 IR2 applied (ic23sp4ir2.exe)
iChain build 2.3.320
Situation
Update clone option is available for iChain hardware
comprising multiple disks. The update clone basically does a
bit copy of the current setup to a drive sector. We looked at
putting out some info after the command completes, that would help
confirm that the task was successful but as soon as we would write
this info, the copied sector data would be outdated. However, there
is some info during the update that gives a state update ...
When doing an updateclone, administrators can confirm that the process has begun on the Logger screen (Screen #3). It shows that the proxy has been halted, the volumes dismounted, and then a message stating something like
"Device 0x3 being copied to Device 0x4".
At the same time, the administrator can check the Booting screen (Screen #2). It shows a status bar of the cloning progress. Something like the following:
Cloning Base Partition
(status bar showing progress 0% - 100%)
Complete
Cloning CacheMaster Partition
(Status bar showing progress 0% - 100%)
Complete
Once this stage completes, the system reboots. We obviously cannot write to any of the volumes at this time as they are unmounted.

Resolution
Check the logger and booting screens during the updateclone
operation to confirm everything completed successfully. Failures at
any of the stages will result in errors being displayed here.
