GroupWise MTA Stops Processing Mail, Crashes, or Simply Exits

Environment

Novell GroupWise 7
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 (OES 2)
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 1

Situation

On SLES10 SP1 or later, the GroupWise Message Transfer Agent (MTA) will intermittently stop processing email, will crash, or will simply exit for no apparent reason.
The phenomenon is intermittent and doesn't necessarily seem to be associated with any sort of pattern such as load level or message anomaly.

Resolution

If GroupWise 7 is at 7.0.2 HP1a or earlier, the fix is to be found in GroupWise 7.0.3.
Novell Development has found more than one reason for the occurrences and have attempted to provide larger scale fixes to the code. If GroupWise 7.0.3 does not resolve the issue, administrators are encouraged to contact Novell Technical Support and reference this TID.
