Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5
Novell ZENworks 7 Asset Management - ZAM7

Situation

Monitor component listed multiple times but is the same monitor and same serial number within the workstation record.

Resolution

Fixed in ZENworks Asset Management 7.5 Interim Release 10 or newer
Fixed in ZENworks Asset Management 7 Interim Release 15 or newer
Interim Releases can be scheduled to run automatically or can be downloaded manually at https://download.novell.com. The Interim releases can be set up within the ZAM Manager for the Task server to check the site on a scheduled basis, and download and apply them automatically. Please refer to the Help Section details of how to set up automatic downloads if desired.

Each interim release is cumulative. If Interim Release 10 or Interim Release 15 is not available due to a newer interim release being placed on the website, be assured that the code needed is in the later release.

Additional Information

The collector reads the registry for the monitor information. In this case it is possible that someone uninstalled and reinstalled the monitor multiple times, refreshed the registry or possible software tampering with the registry.
The registry area likely to cause this problem would be HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY.
In this case multiple identical entries will be present, one for each monitor component: each of these identical keys should have a subkey with a GUID name, and under that subkey should be another subkey named "Device Parameters", which will itself contain a value named "EDID".
It's from this registry value that the collector is likely to have read the monitor's EDIT block - and if there are identical registry entries, it reports multiple monitors - one for each.
