Environment

Novell ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management Support Pack 2 - ZDM6.5 SP2 Application Launcher (NAL)
Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management - ZDM7 Application Launcher (NAL)
The problem does not occur if the user is not in remote mode.

Situation

Given the following circumstances:
* Remote user
* workstation-associated, forced-cache application with a dependency
* Application is verified
the install cache will be deleted, meaning that the application can no longer be verified when disconnected.
  1. Create a test application, it can be an MSI, or a simple application that copies a file, do not associate this application anywhere
  2. Create a new application, make the first application a dependency. associate it to a workstation, and mark it force-cache
  3. Login
  4. check NALCACHE - note that the install cache for the dependent application is created and populated
  5. Start NAL, ensure that you are a remote user
  6. Run the main application
  7. Check NALCACHE, note that the install cache for the dependent application is still present
  8. Verify the application
  9. Check NALCACHE
The install cache for the dependent application has been deleted
The problem can also be seen with user-associated applications with the following steps to duplicate:
  1. Create a test application, it can be an MSI, or a simple application that copies a file, do not associate this application anywhere
  2. Create a new application, make the first application a dependency. associate it to a user, and mark it force-cache
  3. Login as that user, start NAL, ensure you are a remote user, note the progress dialog boxes for the two applications (main and dependent)
  4. check NALCACHE - note that the install cache for the dependent application is created and populated
  5. Run the main application
  6. Check NALCACHE - the install cache has been deleted.
  7. refresh NAL and the applications will be force-cached again
  8. verify application, and the cache is deleted

Resolution

For ZDM7: Fixed in ZENworks 7 with SP1 Desktop Management, available at https://download.novell.com

For ZDM6.5 SP2: fixed in ZENworks 6.5 Desktop Management SP2 IR1 or newer found at https://download.novell.com/patch/finder

As a workaround, the problem does not occur if the application is directly associated to the workstation and marked force-cache (as opposed to just being a dependent application).
