Situation

Error "The password could not be changed" error code 126:-319, when trying to change a user password in NWAdmin or ConsoleOne
Error: "-601" when password change is made from the client or from NWadmin and ConsoleOne
Error "The NDS schema could not be extended" NDS error -319, when accessing the BorderManager setup tab in NWAdmin

Resolution

Option1:
Use iManager to change passwords

Option 2:
  • On the Client Uninstall NMAS "Novell Modular Authentication Services" from add or remove programs
  • Remove NMAS Authentication from the Novell Netware Client
1. Right click and choose properties on the Novell Netware Client
2. Locate and select the advaced login tab
3. Remove the check mark for NMAS Authentication and click OK


If removing the NMAS client or disabling NMAS Authentication is not an option, the underlying problem may have something to do with NICI corruption. Please see TID #7000443 - Error "Failed to set current tree name. Can not continue" for more details.

Additional Information

NMAS authentication is installed by default with the Novell Netware client verison 4.9 SP1 but has not been implemented as a valid log in method
