permission denied on smbfs mounted share (SAMBA)

Environment

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
Novell Open Enterprise Server (Linux based)
Novell Linux Desktop

Situation

The System is acting as a client to a Windows Server. A share is mounted onto the system via smbmount. This mount seems to be successful and a subsequent mount shows:

//192.168.2.10/Data on /mnt type smbfs

but any attempt to access this share fails with an ERROR:Permission denied
even so everything seems to be configured correctly and maybe worked with a SLES8 before fine.

Resolution

Do not use
smbmount
or
mount -t smbfs
as smbfs is deprecated. Instead use
mount -t cifs
