End-of-file ora-03113 error when running Compliance Report against some Oracle DB versions

Environment

Novell ZENworks 7.5 Asset Management - ZAM7.5

Situation

Consistent end-of-file exception only when running Compliance reports.
ERROR (using jdbc driver):
2007-08-24 14:57:55,461 INFO rtr.Report - Action Class exception:
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
at oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:125)

ERROR (using odbc driver):
2007-09-06 08:45:41,581 INFO rtr.Report - Action Class exception:
java.sql.SQLException: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
at sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbc.createSQLException(Unknown Source)

Resolution

In general, if the error occurs randomly, it may reflect a network issue.
In this case, however, the error occurs consistently, and only with the Compliance Report.
In some cases using the jdbc driver will resolve the issue (see TID 3528900 at https://support.novell.com ). If not, check the version of the Oracle patch set applied. For example, if the problem occurs with 9.2.0.6 upgrading to 9.2.0.8 resolved the issue.

Fixed in ZENworks Asset Management 7.5 Interim Release 6 or newer
Interim Releases can be scheduled to run automatically or can be downloaded manually at https://download.novell.com/patch/finder The Interim releases can be set up within the ZAM Manager for the Task server to check the site on a scheduled basis, and download and apply them automatically. Please refer to the Help Section details of how to set up automatic downloads if desired.

Each interim release is cumulative. If Interim Release xx is not available due to a newer interim release being placed on the website, be assured that the code needed is in the later release.
