Environment

Novell Audit 2.0.0 Platform Agent
Novell Audit 2.0.2 Platform Agent
Novell Audit 2.0.2 FP1
Novell NetWare 6.0 Support Pack 5

Situation

Novell Audit server Platform Agent was upgraded from 2.0.0 to 2.0.2.
Server started ABENDED when loading LCACHE.NLM.

Resolution

Deleted the Cache file located in the SYS:ETC\LCONFIG directory.
Restart the server and load agents.

Additional Information

The cache file in the SYS:ETC\LOGCACHE directory had gotten corrupted.

The Platform Agent / Lcache automatically creates a cache file for each registered application on the current computer. The filename for each application's cache file is a hash value.

LCACHE.NLM can take a while to validate the cache file that is out there. Please refer to KB 3372405 for details. However, there was a version of LCACHE.NLM that did not check an existing cache file. Therefore if the file is corrupted, LCACHE.NLM would send the corrupted data and thus cause an ABEND. LCACHE.NLM has been changed so that it will validate the cache files present on the server. Currently Novell Audit 2.0.2 FP1 does not check/validate cache files. However, Novell Audit 2.0.2 FP2, if and when Novell Audit 2.0.2 FP2 ships, will re-instate the cache check. Novell Audit 2.0.2 FP2 has not been released, but may be released at some future time.
