Resolution

Here a few things to check to insure proper creation:

  1. In many cases it is access to the Software directory that hampers our efforts. Insure that there are current accessible software directories defined under ConsoleOne | Tools | GroupWise System Operation | Software directory management. You may need to map a drive to the software directory from the workstation running ConsoleOne. You may also need to grant full file system eDirectory rights to the Software Directory you choose while creating the post office.

  2. Insure you are using current versions of ConsoleOne and GroupWise snapins. While in ConsoleOne select Help | About ConsoleOne and Help | About Snapins to check version dates. Verify ConesoleOne and the GroupWise Administration snapin are current.

  3. GroupWise association to NDS may have has been compromised in some way. It may be necessary to graft GroupWise attributes to NDS. See Grafting GroupWise.

  4. Damage to a Software Distribution Directory record under Tools | GroupWise system operations | Software Directory Management.
*ALL software directories must point to an actual software directory and a correct path or be removed. Software directories should contain the current code for the version of GroupWise you are running.

  5. Time Zone definition is incorrect: Check for Incorrect Time Zone Definitions in ConsoleOne | Tools | GroupWise System Operations | Time Zones

  6. Missing the "wpoffice" directory in the root of the domain directory, create a wpoffice directory in the root of the domain directory and add a copy of NGWGUARD.DC. You can copy ngwguard.dc from your Software directory/po directory.

Additional Information

When creating a Domain or Post office we are depending on several things to work together, IE: ConsoleOne, GW snapin, EDirectory, Software directory contents, software directory location, associations between EDirectory and GroupWise databases etc.
When a GroupWise Domain or Post Office is created ConsoleOne will need to copy some files to the new domain or post office directory and will need access to the files in the Software Distribution directory. ConesoleOne will get the software it needs to create the post office or domain from the software directory defined and selected while creating.
All of these components work together to create the new domain and or post office. When there are issues with creating these objects we need to look toward these areas to find the problem, resolve it and thus allow us to create the domain and or post office.
