Environment

Novell GroupWise Internet Agent (GWIA) 7 Support Pack One

Situation

Cannot select alternate Internet Agent for outbound SMTP/MIME
Cannot select alternate GWIA for outbound messages under ConsoneOne | Tools | GroupWise System Operations | Internet Addressing
Alternate Internet Agent greyed out
Outbound Internet agent greyed out

Resolution

The GWIA must be using the MTP port under the Network address of the GWIA Properties for this option to be available.
To set GWIA to use the MTP port to communicate with the domain do the following:
1. Go to ConsoleOne
2. Go to Properties of the GWIA
3. GroupWise Tab
4. Network address
5. Set the MTP port for the GWIA to use to be something other then 0
See additional information below to configure.

Additional Information

By configuring the Internet Agent to communicate with the MTA by way of TCP/IP, you can configure an alternate Internet Agent for a domain, so that if the domain’s primary Internet Agent goes down, the MTA can fail over to another Internet Agent in your GroupWise system until the primary Internet Agent is up and running again. This feature is especially useful in large GroupWise systems with multiple Internet Agents that handle a lot of Internet messages.
To Configure this:
  1. Make sure that you have configured the Internet Agents for TCP/IP, as described in Changing the Link Protocol between the Internet Agent and the Message Transfer Agent.

  2. In ConsoleOne, right-click the Domain object, then click Properties.

  3. Click GroupWise > Internet Addressing.
Domain object Internet Addressing property page
4. In the Alternate Internet Agent for Outbound SMTP/MIME Messages field, select an Internet Agent as an alternate for this domain.
5. Click OK to save your changes.

The MTA always tries to transfer outbound Internet messages to the primary Internet Agent first, so after an outage the primary Internet Agent automatically resumes its normal processing for the domain.

When setting the MTP port for the GWIA please note the MTP port that all other GroupWise agents on this same server are set to use. Setting the GWIA MTP port to be the same as another GroupWise agent on the same server would create a port conflict.
Set the MTP port for the GWIA to be unique for the server: 7103 is usually not in use by an MTA or POA on the server and in most cases would be a good choice for this setting.
Note.
Setting in GroupWise for using default routing domains have also been known to cause this issue of not being able to select an Alternate Internet Agent.
