Environment

Novell BorderManager 3.8 Support Pack 5
Novell BorderManager 3.9

Situation

608 illegal attribute in nwadmn32 when configuring Novell BorderManager.
When clicking on the setup tab to configure BorderManager in nwadmn32, a message pops with the -608 illegal attribute. This error did not allow customer to configure BorderManager server.
BorderManager install log files did not show any issues with schema
Dsrepair showed no problems

Resolution

The ipxip gateway object, server_name-gw object is not present in the container where the server resides. Once the object was created manually thru nwadmn32, BorderManager could be accessed and configured and error was gone

Additional Information

To catch this issue, a LAN trace was taken at BorderManager server using pktscan.nlm. Trace revealed that when clicking on the setup tab, a query searching for the server_name-gw object was sent and a -601 was returned. After that a -608 trying to add the ipxip attributes generated the 608 illegal attribute error.
It is unknown why this object was not created either by the installation or when launching nwadmn32 but manually creating solved the issue.
