Environment

Novell Nterprise Linux Services 1.0 (NNLS 1.0)
Novell Linux User Management (LUM)
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.0 (SLES 8)
Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (SLES 9)
Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) Support Pack 2 Linux
Novell Linux User Management (LUM) 2.2.0.6-1

Situation

1. When a user logs into Linux system with NNLS 1.0 and LUM they see a message 'I have no name!' for the LUM enabled username.
User name prompt on Linux is appearing with "I have no name!"
2. When running OESSP2 SLES9 novell-lum-2.2.0.6-1 and you have the enable-persistent-cache=yes in the /etc/nam.conf file, You see"I have noname@SERVER:" when logged in as a LUM enabled user.

Resolution

1. You should login as root on the Linux server where LUM is running and start 'nscd'.
You can do this by entering the following: /etc/init.d/nscd start
2. Enable persistent cach in the /etc/nam.conf with enable-persistent-cache=yes and restart nscd (rcnscd restart) and namcd (rcnamcd restart). You should then be able to see theuser@SERVER: when you log in.

Additional Information

This prompt is happening because 'nscd' is not running when you login via namcd.
