Resolution

Use the Migration Wizard from the NetWare 6.5 release

Complete the following steps:

  1. Install NW 6 on the new server putting it into its own tree. Give the server the correct server name and IP address. (make sure it is not connected to the network)
  2. Run DSREPAIR -RC on the source server which will backup the database to SYS:\SYSTEM\DSR_DIB\0000000.$DU
  3. Back up trustees on the source server using TRUSTBAR.NLM
  4. Log into the source server from a workstation
  5. On the source server, run NWCONFIG | Directory Options | Directory backup and restore options | Save local NDS information before hardware upgrade
  6. Copy the DS file to the workstation. The file (00000000.$HW) is copied to the root of the C: drive, but should be located in the SYS:SYSTEM directory as well.
  7. Remove the source server from the network
  8. Attach the new server to the network
  9. Remove Directory Services from the desitnation server
  10. Copy DS backup files to the destination server
  11. On the new server, run NWCONFIG | Directory Options | Directory backup and restore options | Restore local NDS information after hardware upgrade
  12. Restore data from tape backup
  13. If trustee assignments were not restored from tape, restore trustees using TRUSTBAR.NLM
