Environment

Novell SecureLogin 6.0
Novell Secure Login 3.51.2

Situation

Error: You are not logged into a directory and SecureLogin was unable to find any cached user data
SecureLogin Not Logged into a Directory

Resolution

Install SecretStore on at least one eDirectory server in the user's replica ring.

Alternatively, if SecretStore is not wanted, uninstall the NSL client and reinstall without SecretStore. Optionally, if no credentials have yet been stored for the user in question, you could simply edit the REG KEY HKLM/Software/Protocom/SecureLogin/SecureLoginDataStore
and change the value of this key from SecretStore to NDS.

For an analysis of the pros and cons of useing SecretStore see TID 10082647 - To Secret or Not To Secret

Additional Information

The error means that SecureLogin's primary data store is not available, and that there is no local cache for this user on the workstation.
SecureLogin was installed in SecretStore mode, but SecretStore was not running on any servers in the replica ring
Right click on the NSL (hand) icon in the system tray, and click on"About." This will show the location and status of SecureLogin's data stores. In this case, the primary data store showed"SecretStore - not available."
