Environment
Novell NetWare 6.5
Situation
When attempting to add space to an NSS volume by deleting the
current one, recreating a larger one with the same name, then
restoring data to the volume will result in an not enough space
error. The space that the volume occupied also shows as used in
NSSMU. A poolrebuild will clear the free space.
Resolution
This is working as designed. NSS has the capability of salvaging
deleted volumes. The default length of time is 4 days. The
following parameters can be changed to clean up deleted volumes
quicker if desired. A poolrebuild cleans up the space as it doesn't
deal with salvageable volumes on the pool.
The following NSS commands control this feature:
nss /LogicalVolumePurgeDelay= Seconds to delay logical volume purging after delete. [Value=345600] = 4 days
nss /LogicalVolumePurgeDelayAfterContinue= Seconds to delay logical volume purging after a continue. [Value=900]= 15 minutes
nss /LogicalVolumePurgeDelayAfterLoad= Seconds to delay logical volume purging after NSS load. [Value=7200] = 120 minutes
nss /LVDeleteStatusBasic Displays information about deleted logical volumes
nss /LVDeleteStatusSalvageable Displays information about salvageable logical
