Situation
The Linux
kernel does not load drivers for many NICs for which it
currently has drivers.
The newid
command must be used to tell the kernel to load the drivers
for the NIC.
The kernel
should recognize NICs for which it has drivers without manually
specifying the newid parameter

Fixed in ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Service Pack 1 Interim Release 3a, available at https://download.novell.com

Scripts were created in building the updated kernel to help
minimize the number of devices for which using the newid parameter
would be required.
