Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Remote Management

Situation

An administrator can disable the Audible or Visible signal while remote viewing, as well as keeping the wallpaper the same.
There is a slight flicker on initiating the Remote View of the workstation.

Resolution

This is unavoidable. When the mirror driver is used, the flicker is a bit more noticeable. It can be substantially reduced by switching to the hook driver. However, it cannot be totally done away with since the screen image has to be captured completely at the beginning of the session. You will at the least see the mouse pointer flickering once.

To enable the hook driver, do the following:
1. Run\RemoteManagement\RMAgent\RMSetDrv.exe /hook
2. Restart the system.
Note that there are disadvantages of using the hook driver since its tightly coupled with the actual video adapter. A number of problem were addressed by going to the mirror driver, the mirror driver is preferred.

Change Log

9/29/08  Removed "This will happen even if the optimization is totally disabled."  from the resolution section to make it less cluttered.
