NALWIN32.EXE loaded from Novell Client login script or as a scheduled action sometimes hangs

Environment

Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management Support Pack 1 - ZDM7 SP1 Desktop Management

Situation

When loading nalwin32 from login script, or as a login event scheduled action policy, nalwin32 sometimes hangs at launch. NAL splash screen does not disappear and application window is not launched. Running as a startup process instead of from the script does not cause hang.

Resolution

Use /time parameter to cause nalwin32 to launch after script processing is complete and the desktop is fully set up.
For example:
nalwin32 /time=30
See "Application Window Command Line Switches" in the ZENworks Application Management documentation for more information on nalwin parameters.
The time should be sufficient to allow the desktop to be fully built. This can require more time if using volatile DLU, extensive policies etc.

Additional Information

This workaround refers only to when the hang is caused by login script launch, and symptom is seen even though no applications are associated with the user. This is not intended to replace troubleshooting to find a cause when a particular application or other condition causes the same symptom.
