Can't change eDirectory user password from within GroupWise

Novell eDirectory 8.8 for NetWare 6.5
Novell ConsoleOne 1.3.6

Situation

When a GroupWise user tries to change the eDirectory password from within GroupWise , it does not change the password. Ldap authentication is on. Universal Password is not enabled.

Resolution

We removed a dos environment variable from the server Startup.ncf and once we re-booted the server the problem went away.

The variable was :
env NDSD_TRY_NMASLOGIN_FIRST=true
