Environment

Novell GroupWise WebAccess 7
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
Microsoft Windows 2003 Server

Situation

Cannot start GroupWise WebAccess as a service
Error: "The WebAccess service encounters this application error Return code: ."
Error: "The WebAccess service encounters this application error CMC was not able to access this GroupWise gateway directory:."
Error: "Application has generated an error, could be a windows internal error"
Error: "CMC could not access domain"
Error: "Event ID 104"
Starting the service as an application using Strtweb.bat works.

Resolution

Possible Solution #1
Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 appears to fix this problem on Windows 2000 servers.
Possible Solution #2
The WebAccess Agent could not access its gateway directory in domain directory (domain\wpgate\webac70a, where domain is the domain directory and webac70a is the gateway directory).
Possible Cause:The WebAccess Agent does not have sufficient rights in the domain directory structure.
Action:Make sure the WebAccess Agent has sufficient rights. See WebAccess Security Requirements in Installing GroupWise WebAccess in theGroupWise 7 Installation Guide.
For more information on the "CMC was not able to access this GroupWise gateway directory" error see GroupWise documentation at:
Possible Solution #3
This solution may be used as a workaround to not being able to start Webaccess agent as a service:
Use a batch file to Start Webaccess agent as an application :Strtweb.bat
strtweb.bat file

The strtweb.bat file is used to start the WebAccess Agent. The batch file specifies the WebAccess startup file. A typical strtweb.bat file includes the following:

title Novell GroupWise WebAccess
@echo off
cls
gwinter.exe @webac65a.waa

You run this batch file to start the WebAccess Agent.
