Environment

Novell Identity Manager Driver- Groupwise Driver

Situation

Why do we recommend the GroupWise driver connect to the primary domain as opposed to the secondary domain?

Resolution

The primary domain is the "hub" of the GroupWise replication model. As such, it will have more"up-to-date" data than any other domain on an ongoing basis. This is why we "recommend" the driver be connected to the primary domain. There are some administrative functions that can only be performed from the primary domain. The driver does not do any of these things currently.

Today, the driver can be connected to any domain, and it will work. There may be circumstances where the need to connect to a secondary domain outweighs access to the most "up-do-date" data. However, Novells' recommendation is to use the primary domain. Individual sites will have to weigh the alternatives and decide what works best for them.
