Situation
This is the behavior with Windows XP, the sending workstation is displaying conversations with an incorrect character set. The receiving workstation can see the message correctly. With Windows 2000, nothing is displayed at all except the sender name.
Resolution
This has to do with a security flaw that was patched for the RichEdit function within Windows. The Microsoft bulletin about this is CVE-2003-1311. The current workaround is to uninstall the Windows Security Update KB 918118.
